Designer Top Picks- Phyllis Kruskop

Hunter Douglas Silhouette Window Shadings and Luminette Privacy Sheers work beautifully together!

Phyllis KruskopMeet the newest addition to our design team at Window Fashions of Texas: Phyllis Kruskop. We asked Phyllis to give us some thoughts in her Designer's Top Picks in window coverings.

First, we asked Phyllis to give us a brief summary of her design background.
"I have been in the interior design/sales field for 20 years. Previously working for a custom home builder in Peoria, IL helping clients with all the selections interior and exterior of their new home, then in the furniture business as a store manager and sales manager, and most recently JCPenney offering in-home custom window treatments. My husband and I recently relocated to San Antonio, TX (Peoria, IL natives) in September and I joined Window Fashions of Texas late November 2017. I have always wanted to live where I can be in open-toed shoes year round!"

The we asked Phyllis what are her favorite Hunter Douglas products:
"The Hunter Douglas Silhouette Window Shading is one of my favorite shades because it is very versatile offering the look of a soft sheer blind and privacy blind all in one. It comes in an array of colors and textures and looks great as a stand-alone shade or paired with stationary side drapery panels or valance/cornice.

Luminette Privacy SheersI also love the Hunter Douglas Luminette Privacy Sheers as they are the perfect complement to the Silhouette and have the appearance of a sheer drapery. They function like a sheer drapery with soft sheer looking fabric and as a shade with rotating fabric vanes which can be semi-opaque or room darkening. Luminette's are very versatile for any type of décor and can also be paired with side stationary drapery panels to create a customized the look."
Next, we asked Phyllis to tell us about her dream home:
"My dream home would be a Tennessee mountain home with views of the smoky mountains from all sides. I would choose the Hunter Douglas Silhouette Window Shadings with PowerView on all the windows and Luminette Privacy Sheers with PowerView on the patio sliders."

The family room that has an open concept layout to the kitchen and dining area. It’s where all the family gathers for special occasions or where my husband and I enjoy watching the sunrise and sunset or just relaxing with our favorite television show.Hunter Douglas Silhouette Window Shadings
The PowerView options allows remote control/smartphone control. I love soft neutral colors in my window treatments so I can add and change colors in my rooms with rugs, throws, pillows, and accessories. The Silhouette and Luminette would allow my husband and I to enjoy the vast mountain views with vanes in the open position while controlling the UV rays (which cause fading to floors and furnishing) and heat from the sun. If we decide to watch a Powerview App and Pebble Remote Controlmovie, a simple button on the Pebble remote closes all the shades to our desired position. When we want a full unobstructed view of the sunrise or sunset another touch of the remote lifts all Silhouette shades off the glass and the Luminette traverses open off the glass as well."

We then asked Phyllis: If you could pick any window coverings to put in your own home, what would it be and why?
"After selling our 20 year Illinois family home and making our way to San Diego, CA for a short-term we downsized to our “tiny house”, which is a 2013 40 foot Montana fifth wheel, designed for full-time living.  We currently reside in a beautiful RV resort with all the resort amenities and lots of live oak trees. Our two fur babies, Chance (Yorkie) and Bella (pom-poo-min pin mix) love their new home as well. We have always loved camping and travels with our RV, and discussed plans being full-time RV’ers in our future retirement. Our fifth wheel features day/night pleated shades with Hunter Douglas Duette Honeycomb Shades with DuoLitecustom cornices. I would choose the Duette honeycomb shades in Duolite. This type shade offers a sheer shade attached to a semi-opaque or blackout shade which would be similar to the pleated shades but offer more heat control in the hot Texas summers and privacy control. Of course, we definitely want these motorized with PowerView so we can control them from anywhere at any time."
