Designer Top Picks- Joanna Sixsmith

Woven Wood Shades and Modern Roman Shades are some of Joanna's Top Picks.

Joanna SixsmithMeet our newest Design Consultant, Joanna Sixsimth, who started at Window Fashions of Texas in October 2017. We've asked her to share her Designer's Top Picks in Hunter Douglas window coverings.

First, a little about Joanna's design background:
"I received my Bachelors in Interior Design in 2008 from Abilene Christian University and quickly dove into the world of windows immediately after graduating.  From then on, I added to my repertoire furniture design and space planning along with window treatments both decorative and functional. Before coming to Window Fashions of Texas, I ran the window treatment department at Creative Interiors and Design in Vancouver, Washington as well as designed whole room solutions and created artist renderings for all designer presentations. I have a passion for interior design as well as drawing and painting, but my true love is window treatments – they add the most impact to a room and provide the ambiance and functionality that people need.

I’m excited to get back to my roots and be a part of the Window Fashions of Texas team."

What is your favorite HD product and why?
Pirouette Window Shadings"I personally love Pirouette Window Shadings with Powerview – it’s such a sleek product and is truly the best for privacy, view and overall aesthetics. I find this is my favorite to offer for clients because it rarely has issues and it provides the best of all worlds. And I am also very fond of the Provenance Woven Wood Roman Shades because I love natural textures and traditional elements and this product resonates perfectly with that."
Next we asked Joanna: Imagine you have built your dream home… you are designing your favorite room… what HD product would you put in the windows?
"My dream home would be a mix of a rustic modern farmhouse- I love industrial metal elements, wood textures, and bold contrasts. I would most likely put Provenance Woven Wood Shades in the public areas of my home and pair them with maybe a Vignette Modern Roman Shade or even some textured Roller Shades in the private spaces."

Provenance Woven Wood Shades with privacy liner"I would place Provenance Woven Wood Shades in the family room and pair them with drapery side panels. Most likely my windows would be very tall, so inside mounted application with valance – I would incorporate them with a separate privacy liner for those times we need more light control or protection/privacy.  Again, I love the natural textures of the woven woods and because child safety is a concern, I’d opt to do Powerview or Cordless."

Duette Honeycomb Shades"In my current home (not my actual dream home if I could build one and cost wasn’t a concern), I actually like the energy efficiency of Duette Honeycomb Shades. I had them in my last house and the difference of having them up versus down was night and day. I would definitely do cordless if possible or ultraglide and keep the color neutral and consistent. Because they are fairly basic and functional, it would allow me to add softening as well like drapery."

Thanks to Joanna for sharing her Designer's Top Picks.
