A Central Texas Rental

Modern furniture and hip Hunter Douglas window coverings give this central Austin rental a fun and funky vibe.

Have you ever thought of renting out your home or a portion of your home on a short-term basis?

Austin Window Fashions customer Jackie Burniske had this idea in mind when she built an 850-square-foot home with a two-car garage on a portion of her lot located in Central Austin. Cental Texas rental house

The original house was built in 1941 on a lot and a half in a charming neighborhood near the University of Texas campus. There was enough room on the lot for Jackie to build a separate home that she intended to use for short-term rentals.

“After living on five continents and in five states, I am now calling Austin my home,” Jackie said. “The city parks, varied restaurants, clubs, theaters, and other entertainment provide endless new experiences. Yet, if you stay central, Austin does not feel like a big city. It’s easy to bike and walk to favorite places.”

Since 2004, Jackie has chosen to stay in homes instead of hotels when she goes on vacation. The ease of having her own kitchen, access to the outdoors, space to move about, as well as interactions with friendly hosts has made this option her preference.

These life experiences led to Jackie’s vision for building her centrally-located Austin rental home. “Our plan all along was to rent it out as a short-term rental.  So, we wanted to have high quality, fun décor so people would say, ‘Wow, this is really Austin!’

“Our idea was to do some unusual things (like window treatments and light fixtures) that you might not do in a house you lived in all the time.  We wanted to take some risks.”

It is a modern, two-story house. One of its key features is its two rooftop decks. “One of the decks is three floors up with a view of downtown,” Jackie said.  The lower deck is above the garage. It has a spiral staircase that leads to the second deck, which is above the house.

Inside the house, modern touches blend together beautifully for a clean, but comfortable, feel. It is evident that Jackie took her time to create a lovely space that will serve many as a home away from home.

If you are interested in renting her home, you can find her listing on Homeaway or airbnb.
