Save Energy and the Environment

When you buy from locally-owned vendors who make their products right here in Texas, it's a better deal you and for our planet! Interior shutters help to insulate your windows, which saves on heating and cooling costs.

Energy Benefits of Interior Shutters

Interior shutters instantly raise the elegance of any room as well as the overall value of your home. They also provide a number of other benefits, including energy savings. In the closed position, they help to lower your energy bills by creating a naturally insulating barrier that keeps out the cold and heat.

Keep Cool in the Summer with Shutters

Plantation shutters block out the sunlight and heat when louvers are closed, similar to the way sunshades work in your car. Shutters offer ultraviolet protection, reflecting back the sun's strong rays instead of absorbing them into the home.

Most curtains and traditional window shades don't offer much in the way of insulation, so you might be losing 25-50 percent of the energy you put into heating or cooling through the windows. Shutters provide a vastly superior thermal barrier that helps keep your home consistently comfortable year-round. When the weather is pleasant, you can open the windows and adjust the tilt of the louvers to control the flow of natural air through the home. Many homeowners find that this allows them to reduce their usage of the AC unit, further lowering the heating and cooling costs of the home. If you reduced your energy costs by 25-50%, how much would you save per year?

Interior Shutters Keep Heat Inside in the Winter

Closing your interior shutters against cold winter drafts does more than make a room seem cozy - it can actually make it warmer. Since so much of a home's heat is lost through poorly insulated windows, shutters provide another barrier that helps keep heat inside the house. In the same way that shutters prevent heat from entering your home in the summer, they can block the chill from entering and heat from escaping, helping to control your costs.

Shop Local and Save the Earth

We all know that supporting local businesses is good for our economy, and it’s also better for the environment.

Imported shutters require heavy packaging to make it safely on the two and a half month journey from China to Texas, which doesn’t always provide adequate protection. If they arrive damaged, it can be another 6-8 weeks before a replacement will be delivered. Our locally made shutters produce less than a tenth of this much waste. The millwork is done in Lubbock and shipped to our factory in reused plywood containers.

It takes a lot less fuel to ship shutter parts from Lubbock to San Antonio than it does to ship from China to San Antonio! If you’re simply looking for the cheapest shutters you can find, you might find they aren’t so cheap after all. You might save a little on the order, but at a large and unnecessary cost to the environment. And you won’t be getting a high-quality shutter made in Texas with real American hardwood.

When you shop locally-owned stores for products made right here in Texas, it’s a better value for you, a better product, and a better deal for our planet!
